How do you protect the privacy of living people?

We try not to release information in either GEDCOM format or on the website on people who are still living. This is not only to protect their privacy but also from hackers, pirates, and otherwise nasty fellows who might want to take advantage of that information. Currently, people who are born after  1925, who have no death dates, are this site's software as still living and therefore their personal information, except for their names, is omitted. Other members of heycuz may, however, still enter their personal information in our database without fear that the general public can view the information. Unless a member is registered, approved, and signed in, personal information that does make its way into the database is not displayed. On the daily birthday list, people who are still living do not show up. Birthday lists posted to the Yahoo group of heycuz will have their birthdate exed-out. In other words, a person who is born on July 4, 1976, will be shown on the birthday list as born July 4, 19XX.

There are some who have requested that no information, including names, be published on specific individuals. In that case, we have removed them or have NAME WITHHELD, on that specific individuals. Our intent is to connect cousins, not offend them. If we have published information that you would like omitted, please click on the "suggest" link above the individual and state that you would like the information removed.
